My regular client Kathy wanted to give a surprise gift to her parents who celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary yesterday. As our usual deal, she sent several cake photos as samples for the cake she wanted to order. There were 4 photos but she choose a cake with a couple setting side by side with each other on a bench.
Two days ahead, I molded the cake toppers using gum paste. I normally did this to make sure that the topper is dry, stable, and hard enough before I started decorating the entire cake.
Here’s the couple topper when it was placed on the cake.
The cake was made of Mocha and it’s my first time to bake a cake with this flavor. I guess I did good on my first attempt. The cake was coated with cream cheese frosting as requested by Kathy.
I like the idea of cake because it allowed me to paint the fondant as another decorating style.
Since it was my first time to paint the cake, I read a lot of blogs and watched videos. I found out that it is best to use vodka and mix with the edible gel color of Wilton. The mixture allows me to paint the fondant without making a mess. I really have a good time practicing my painting skills and designing the grasses.. LOL. 😀
Kathy asked me to scatter some hearts on the empty white spaces on the cake sides to fit to the Valentines month. I also cut out some gum paste for the anniversary message and pasted them on the cake board.
I also spent a lot of time making these tiny flower pots that require patience and precision to mold.
On the rear end middle you can see the number 38 which emphasized the couples’ years of being together.
There’s a printed greeting fastened on an artistic paper straw for an added look.
Then, Kathy tagged me on her FB post during their family dinner and I grabbed a photo of her adorable parents.
Happy 38th Wedding Anniversary to the wonderful couple. Your love and commitment to each other serve as are an inspiration for other couples around the world.
