In Surigao City, we live in a fenced-off compound which is the ancestral place of my mother. Our neighbors are our relatives who are my mother’s siblings and my grandparents.
It is in this place that I grow up and spend my adolescent years. I remember those times that I regularly visited my aunt and maternal grandparents who live in their ancestral house located near the main gate of the compound. Whenever my mom’s siblings and their children visited the city we always have gatherings and dinner. I really have a close and big family in this city.
When I came home in the Philippines, I organized a joint dinner for them last July 24th. We simply savored some grilled chicken and pancit bihon with some boiled sweet potatoes.
It is really nice to see my relatives after three years of being away. So many things have changed but still the love and care is evident on us all.
