I really love to celebrate special occasions through dining in many restaurants in Oman. On Father’s Day last June 15th, I invited my family to eat at Spicy Village in Al Khuwair area because I wanted to savor some Indian and Continental cuisine that the restaurant is offering. Other than that, its location is very new to our home.
After the Holy Eucharistic Mass celebration at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Ghala we head off to the inner side of Al Khuwair. We arrive in the restaurant venu at around 7:00 in the evening and we are surprised that we are the ONLY GUESTS in there.
A very friendly Indian waiter approach and channel us to our preferred seats which are just near the main entrance door. Then, he gives us the menu booklet and I see a variety of dishes that are in Indian, Chinese, and Continental cuisines. My husband and I selected our orders. While waiting, as usual as a first time diner, it is my habit to examine the menu closely. I read each pages and try to discover the interesting things about this restaurant.
I learn that Spicy Village is operating in Oman for over two decades and it has six outlets in Oman: Ruwi, Al Khuwair, Rusayl, Sohar, Nizwa, and Sur. For years it became famous for its good food, friendly ambiance and grate value. Their concept is to offer food where the whole family can sit down and eat together and enjoy their meal. The restaurant in Al Khuwair is renovated in 2012 and it is basically very clean and cozy. We feel very private considering there are no other diners in the place.
Our soup order arrives and it is a Sweet Corn Chicken soup at 0.850 baiza per order. One serving is good for two people so we ordered two and havr it divided into four equal servings.
The drinks are also served before the main dish. My sister and I order the Vanilla Milk shake at 0.800 baiza each while my kids order the choco milk shake at 0.800 baiza each which they really love so much. The “Drums of Heaven” (2.200 OMR) is our appetizer which is basically drumstick chicken that are marinated, fried, and served with a sauce and onion leaves.
There’s also the American Chop Suey (2.600 OMR) a kind of vegetarian crispy fried noodles with an orange sauce.
The Mixed Sea Food Sizzler (5.500 OMR) contained squid and fish that are grilled and seasoned with garlic and schezwan sauce.
To complete our meal, we also add some steamed rice (0.900 baiza) and butter Nan Bread (0.500 baiza).
Well, the food prices are a bit reasonable and affordable. For me it can be categorized as a “budget restaurant” but the foods are delicious and freshly cook as per order basis.
For tonight, we got a pleasant dining experience plus the added charm and friendliness of the staff and crew. They even ask me to answer their feedback form.
By the way, they also conduct the annual Star Chef Contest in Muscat and also having some periodical food fests. Sounds interesting, right?
The ambiance is generally superb in Al-Khuwair. They are the perfect location for an unforgettable night out with family and friends, a productive business lunch with colleagues and clients or to celebrate a birthday or special occasion in style. So, I’ll advice to go for it.
