On Mother’s Day, I opt to celebrate my special day with my own family. And because dining out is often one of my best choices to give them my wonderful treat, I bring my husband, kids, and sister to Manhattan Fish Market on November 18th Street in Azaiba, Muscat, Oman.
I happen to know about the place from my friend who posted her pictures on Facebook. I got intrigue because dining is one also of my favorite motherly activities. So, after attending the Holy Mass on Sunday evening, we head off to Al Azaiba area and looking for the newly opened restaurant in town. I search on Facebook the café’s location and the map directed me to the main street just before the Muscat International Airport traffic lights intersection. Until we spot its location right in front of MB Petroleum just after the Al Mouj Golf Course.
At the second floor of the building is a boutique and elegant dress shop. However, the parking area in front of the café is limited so we park the car on the jagged area just beside the building.
From the outside, you can see the restaurant’s interior because of its big huge glass windows and I can tell the ambiance is very good. I’m not mistaken because the moment we step into the restaurant we are welcomed with the accommodating and smiling hosts.
We scoop our seats on a corner with the red sofa, long black table, and chic-style white chairs.
I really love the mix of western and middle-eastern setup, the arrangement of tables, and the interior decoration with all the nicely-frame photos of Manhattan area in New York. I just wish one day I can visit that place. Hmmmm….not bad to make a wish, right? Who knows I can go there two or three years from today.. LOL 😀
A warm and friendly Filipino waiter approaches us, gives the menu book, and takes our orders. My son promptly makes his choices: Cheesy Chips (1.900 OMR), Manhattan Fish and Chips Dory (2.900 OMR), and Chocolate Milkshake (1.900 OMR).
For us three, we selected: Spaghetti in the Sea (3.900 OMR), Manhattan Flaming Seafood Platter (11.900), and Citrus Mint Drink (1.800).
While waiting for our food, I take time to discover the restaurant by scrutinizing its menu book. Honestly, I got amazed on how the foods are pictured and presented on a nicely-creatively-made menu. Their menu is quite extensive with choices of starters, salads, soups, pastas, grills, seafood platters, desserts, and drinks. I like the menu cover with the Liberty Torch which the fishes are designed as the FLAME. Very artistic and unique!
The Manhattan Fish Market has just opened last February 12. The café draws its inspiration from the reputable Fulton Fish Market, was once located below the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. The market was known to offer a diverse variation of fresh fish and catering seafood dishes to fanatics and avid customers. Manhattan Fish Market also has branches in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. It obviously originated in Manhattan! 🙂
Today, Manhattan Fish Market dedicates itself as a great place for a wide variety of American-style seafood choices. And I can really tell that when they started to serve our food.
We are glad that they have this complementary seafood chowder that is given for free. The taste is truly delicious it is just timely to fill in my grumbling-empty stomach.
Then, the Cheesy Chips is full of golden brown chips and dressed with nacho cheesy sauce.
The Manhattan Fish and Chip Dory is a hand battered fish fillet drizzled with the Garlic Herb Sauce, with added chips, and side salad. The tender Dory fish a firmer and heavenly light!
We also have some pasta treats with the Spaghetti in the Sea. It is a pasta noodles tossed with marinara sauce with some succulent shrimps, juicy mussels, and fried calamari. It’s oodly -goodly!
Then, the restaurant’s legendary Manhattan Flaming Seafood Platter that they said everyone raves about. It has battered fish fillets, oysters, calamaris, jumbo prawns, and steamed vegetables on top of biryani rice that is literally flamed and torched before our eyes.
I really enjoy the food, clapping my hands while tasting them all. The sauces and spice dips are nice options too. The fishes are well-cooked and deliciously flavored.
We also have the drinks to quench our thirsty-but-satisfied beings. The Citrus Mint which is basically slush of lemon and mint.
While the kids have the Chocolate Milkshake Drinks that they really love and finished them all down to the last sip.
They also have these very funny and informative tissues.
In total our bill come at 29.000 OMR with additional large bottle of mineral water (1.000 OMR). Wow! What a very reasonable amount for a truly yummy seafood dishes. They don’t even charge extra tax. I mean maybe they have included it on the price of each food.
We are all satisfied and happy customers! I can say that the foods are served quickly and exactly came out the way they look on the menu book. We enjoy our time there even if my kids are noisy and movable because the place is child-friendly too.
I will definitely come back there and try their other menus. I tell you it’s worth your try because the restaurant really fulfill its mission to ”serve our guest an unique dining experience of outstanding quality, service, ambience and value.”
