Year 2014 is finally over and there are a lot of things that happened in my life. I want to look back with the top 5 “big hits” that made that year worth remembering.
A Decade of Blissful Marriage
It is truly God’s promise and ultimate gift for any couple to reach ten years of married hood. Jesse and I have grown to be matured, responsible, and dedicated to our commitment of being together until our last breath. We seek for silver linings of all the challenges in our lives. We shared our joys and laughters. We have been through “thick and thin, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer” and if there is one wish I can ask from God then that is for us to meet and marry again even in the afterlife.
To honor our relationship and celebrate our “decade of blissful marriage”, Jesse and I decided to make it special by having a holy wedding anniversary ceremony and “renewal of our vows” at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Ghaa, Muscat, Oman.
The ceremony was attended by our close friends and loved ones.
The formal celebration was followed by a very private and intimate “long table dinner” at Al Makan Cafe, a fine restaurant in Muscat.
I also made our 10th Wedding Anniversary cake while we both designed our own customized swan figurines as wedding anniversary souvenirs.
Nurturing my desires and passions
I am really guilty of ignoring this blog and take half-a-year hiatus from posting stories of our life. The main reason is that I am so occupied with my other blog – Blissful Eats– to which I regularly posted my “sweet creations” as well as my own recipes, how-tos, and pictures of my amazing cakes. It is like my creative outlet and a fruition of my passion in baking and cake decorating.
From simply selling brownies to a food exhibition back in 2013, now, I am totally amazed of how my skills gradually developed for the last two years. I am forever grateful of my growing number of clients who continuously patronize my cakes and making my sweet creations a part of their special occasion.
Other than that, I have harness my skills in writing and blogging. I just to write about anything that I am interested of.
To sum it up, these are the fulfillment of my desires and passions:
- I enrolled to several Wilton courses (1, 2, 3, and 4) offered in Tavola in Muscat.
- After running a joint business venture with my friend for two years, I have decided to become a soloprenuer and establish my own homebased cake business. In May 2015 I launched my online cake shoppe Happy Baker Delights where my clients within Oman can place their orders and see samples of my sweet creations.
- I am visible in the social media – instagram, pinterest, facebook, and twitter – bearing the online pseudoname as “blissfulmomriah” and “happybakerdelights”.
- I redesign my own food blog – Blissful Eats, and family-lifestyle blog – Blissful Life.
- I have also started conceptualizing and setting up dessert buffet table. It begun during the baptismal of the daughter of my bestfriend in Abu Dhabi.
Treasuring my family – my kids and hubby’s birthdays
As a mom and wife, I love to celebrate the special occasions of my children and husband especially on their birthdays. My family is my greatest treasure and I always give attention to every detail that really matters to them. Last year, we hosted birthday parties for my husband and children. Glad to say, I made their customized and special cakes for the occasion.
Our son Andrei turned 10 years old last June and we threw a Water Pokemon Themed-party for him. I made his water pokemon birthday cake with froggy as the main character. We scheduled our guest’s invitation into batches to accommodate them in our small but cozy home. The celebration started at lunch time until evening dinner. The kids have the kiddie party in the afternoon while the adults enjoyed the videoke and vodka session in the evening.
My little girl wanted to become a princess. On her birthday, I made her Princess Anna of Arandelle birthday cake. Oh boy! She gave me a very amazing expression when she saw her birthday cake. Although Princess Anna used to have an orange hair and big sparkling eyes, but my daughter instantly recognized her favorite princess because of the dress and hairstyle. She thought it was a toy doll! My heart couldn’t contain the joy when I knew how happy she was with her 3rd birthday cake especially when she said “thank you mommy“.
We hosted my daughter’s party at Papa John’s Pizza House in Muscat where our friends and the godparents of Anyah were invited.
I am so thankful to God for giving me Anyah as our princess and for the gift of life. I believe that it is every mom’s happiness and content to give the best of everything to their little darlings.
Traveling and reconnecting with friends and loved ones
Last year, we traveled within and around Oman during the long holidays. This country has many beautiful things to offer especially those spectacular sights of nature’s wonders like beaches, mountains, and rivers. We enjoy the whole day and put a camp at night. In the coming days, I will post stories about our escapades for you to know and see the real beauty of the sultanate.
In May, we headed off to United Arab Emirates and visited our long time family friends. We also attended the Baptismal Ceremony of Baby Like, the 2nd child and daughter of our good friend Elmer and Evelyn. I made the baptismal cake and set up the dessert buffet table at the venue. I am glad Evelyn entrusted me for the preparation and she was absolutely happy to see the beautiful display of sweets and goodies. I also earned praises from their guests. Some of them wanted to have my service on their occasions but sad to say I am living in Muscat and it is a bit inconvenient for me to travel to UAE.
Other than the baptismal celebration, we also had a great time at Yas Waterworld in Yas Island while basking under the sun and enjoying all the water rides in the park.
During the Eid Al Adha Holiday in July, my college friends from Abu Dhabi came over to Muscat and spent 4 days with us.
We simply had a baking session at home.
Then, we strolled to the amazing Bimma Sinkhole where they get to see the amazing natural beauty of Oman.
Career Growth and a new workplace – my long-time answered prayer
Finding a new job in Muscat is ultimate my prayer for the last two years because I wanted to live in the city where my kids are studying. Gladly, I was offered a teaching post in Oman Tourism College.
When we relocated to Muscat in 2013, it is always a struggle to get up early in the morning and travel to my school in Musanna for an hour and half. It is really a sacrifice and inconvenient. But leaving Al Musanna College of Technology is not an easy decision. The place has been considerably my home for nearly seven years. In my facebook post, I wrote:
“…I would like to thank my supervisors, colleagues, and friends for all the wonderful opportunities, experiences, and knowledge that they have afforded me. My employment has been thoroughly gratifying and rewarding. All the professional guidance and personal development that I have learned will be my anchor as I step further in my career. I will also treasure those sweet and beautiful memories I earned here forever. Thank you so much and all the best to us all! Maasalamah.”
I joined my new college in September last year and at time of this writing I have already completed my probationary period. I am happy because this is a small college and I am working with equally competitive and heartwarming colleagues and supported supervisors. I think I will stay here a bit longer.
So friends, those were the greatest happenings that took place in 2014. I still have so many things to do and many places to see. My plans are valid and my dreams are real. I will do whatever it takes to keep me living and growing. But as of now, I enjoy what I am doing and where I am.
Thank you for reading and hope you visit my blog again soon.
