For years, I have been making and trying these homemade lemon-rich cosmetics. Lemon has many health benefits, not just adding flavor to foods and drinks but a variety of uses for natural skin and beauty treatments too. It has a natural antioxidant content that fight against aging process by stimulating collagen production. No wonder cosmetic industry uses lemon extract for the wide range of beauty products that are often expensive.
So, I will share to you the secret of youthful beauty and smooth and clear skin with just a fresh squeezed of lemon juice. From hair to fingernails, these lemon treatments can be good natural beauty regimen that you will enjoy while pampering yourself.
1. Hair Conditioner
Hair can make you look attractive. If you have a dull and damage hair or might have been pissed off with dandruff and itchy scalp, you can make this hair conditioner to bring life and luster back to it. Simply combine 3 tbsp of olive oil (vegetable oil, coconut oil), 1 tbsp of honey, 1 egg white, and 1 tbsp of lemon juice to make the mixture. Use the mixture evenly throughout already wet hair and gently comb it evenly. Then cover hair with a plastic cap or bag (but I use cling warp) for a half hour. After which, shampoo and rinse off this conditioner one more time for luxuriously shiny hair!
2. Facial Mask
For a smooth, brighter, and softer skin use 2 tbsp of oatmeal, 1 tbsp of honey, and ½ tsp of lemon juice, then mix to a paste in a dish and apply all over your face and neck. But my style, I add 2tbsp of hot water to the oatmeal first to keep it warm and half-cooked. Let the mask stand for half an hour and rinse it with warm water. Touch your fair for a smooth and fresh look. Regular use of this exfoliating facial mask mixture will fade dark spots and remove blackheads, making your skin look clear and lighten.
3. Teeth Whitener and Breath Freshener
Lemon is a natural breath freshener because of its citric acid that destroys odor causing bacteria. You can quickly eliminate bad breath by squirting a few drops of lemon and swish it around for 15 seconds and swallow it. You can also drink water mixed with lemon juice to freshen up your breath throughout the day.
Likewise, a lemon can naturally whiten your teeth. Just combine some drops of lemon extract with table salt and pinch of baking soda and rub on the teeth. Leave for 1 minute then smile for a white shiny teeth.
Another medical benefit of lemon is to relieve tonsillitis and sore throat. Just add half cup of lemon and 3 tbsp of vinegar. Then, gurgle your mouth with the mixture. Repeat the process three times a day to get the comfort that you need.
4. Body Scrub
There’s nothing more pampering and relaxing way than scrubbing and massaging yourself with this lemon-rich body scrub. Gather and keep used tea bags in a small container and place them in the refrigerator. Once you are ready to make the mixture, remove the loose tea from the bag, add 1 tbsp of coffee and 3 tbsp of lemon extract and mixed well to a sand consistency. Apply it throughout your body – arms, hands, neck, shoulder, legs, ankle, and feet. Keep it on for half an hour and then wash off with lukewarm water. This application every weekend will eventually make the skin look younger and beautiful plus it can reduce unwanted cellulite stored around your waistline, butt, and thighs.
5. Nail Care and Foot Spa
Start your fingernails care by soaking it in a lemon juice with 1/2 cup of water and ½ cup of vinegar. Brush your fingernails with a nail brush and you will be amazed at how shiny and healthy your fingernails look!
Lemon is also a good foot spa beauty treatment. You can make a mixture containing 1 cup milk, 3 tbsp of olive oil, and 3 tbsp of lemon extract then dipped your feet for 30 minutes. Use foot scrubber such as a pumice stone to slough away dead skin keeping your feet fresh and smooth. This is an ideal way before you have your pedicure, either at the saloon or do-it-yourself at home.
6. Detoxifying drink
If possible, start your day with a glass of fresh lemon juice mix with warm water and sweetened with 1 tbsp of honey. This habit will help detoxify your body by flushing away unwanted toxins in your liver and intestines, stimulating blood circulation, and reducing arterial pressure. It will clear your entire system and a remedy for constipation. This drink can also be a good liquid therapy for cough and flu.
So freshen up your mood, sip this lemon water!
